What Is Success?
A lot of people in today’s world feel the bitter sting of having failed, or having failed at something. A lot of people today want instant success, which rarely if ever comes to knock.
Some people want to be famous, or rich, or have fancy clothes and cars. While there may be nothing wrong with having those things as they in themselves are not wrong, you have to ask if they bring lasting happiness?
There was a line from the book, “Enders Game” To quote, “How you win matters.” This is something very important to think about. How one wins does make a difference. So we have to ask ourselves what really matters in life, in the world, and to us as beings?
Don’t Leave, Be A Tree!
The long term good of everyone has to be taken into consideration for what works for our long term survival. If people have some space to work within that leaves very little room for doing others harm while maximizing their benefits to themselves and others; there is nothing wrong with that.
There is nothing wrong with doing well for yourself. If you are able to help take care of others along the way then it has benefits to not just yourself but others too.
Now to approach the question from another angle, What would make success worthwhile for each individual and society as a group? Is there something that could be done to make life better for everyone? If we are looking to material good and services to make us happy then we are missing the point.
What Goal To Have!
For us to be happy we have to look at things from a deeper level to understand them. It’s not enough to say that you believe this, you have to be willing to do something about it. Which will require introspection on your part to discern the information that is available while still keeping the goal of making life for everyone better.
If God were alive today in this world, I’m sure he is very unhappy here. People are selfish, they don’t listen, they don’t think, and they want to put as little effort forward as possible. Most people today are getting by on the bare minimum.
As from my experience I see that most people do not value brilliant people with exceptional minds. They really don’t see the positive aspects of reading, writing, and growth. Most people are spending their time, often wasting their time on things that do not really build skills unless they want to become really good actors.
As for the people that are still doing something real in this world, to the few that are brave, there is much joy that they have found and will continue to find. However the problems go deeper than just what has been described here.
Redefining Success
In talking about success, having warm happy families that are dynamic and fluid in their structure that they can survive, adapt, grow, learn, and thrive; these structures are not being supported in most cases. At a social level in this country there are serious problems at the family level that is leading to the crumbling of our very structure of society.
There are two types of value. Perceived and actual. It’s important to know the difference between the two. Otherwise you might make some mistakes.
Values
So after thinking about this a long time today, I can see some real benefits to making progress. A person could spend several weeks thinking about this kind of stuff and arrive at a conclusion that works for everyone’s best interests.
We have to do something that makes life better. What really matters? What’s good for everyone. Something that we have to consider is are we being effective in our mission? This is important, because if you just sit spinning your wheels, and you fail to produce anything, then you feel bad.
It’s important to be productive, and have the right goals in life. With introspection one can find what matters and help others see the value in doing likewise. May the force be with you.
